The poems that I enjoy reading at the moment are poems that extend us as human beings, that help us to answer the question: what is it to be human?
In this poem ‘What’s Human’ the poet Jean Atkin says ‘we are the dark’ and that we are looking for something in a ‘whorl of galaxies’.

What’s Human by Jean Atkin
Outside under
this field of stars
in a frost that slows
the blood
we are the dark.
We hold in a creel
of air
what’s human
and stretch out
our fingertips
to the whorl of galaxies
to feel for what’s not there.
